The Husqvarna Mud Run, an exhilarating charity event, was set to once again unite the community in support of a noble cause. Held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, participants braved the mud with one goal in mind: to raise funds for KidzCan Zimbabwe. This annual event, conceptualised by Grant Mitchell in 2012, has grown into a beloved tradition, combining fun with philanthropy under the Zimbabwean sun.
Over the past decade, the Mud Run has evolved from a humble gathering to a significant fundraising powerhouse, generating an impressive $80,546 for KidzCan Zimbabwe during its 2022 anniversary edition.
The journey has been marked by remarkable milestones, with each year surpassing the last in terms of funds raised. What began with a modest $600 in 2013 has now blossomed into a substantial contribution, thanks to the generosity of participants and the backing of the corporate sector. Even amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mud Run persisted, raising an impressive $30 000 in 2021.
Mitchell emphasises the integrity of the partnership with KidzCan, praising the organisation’s commitment to transparency and unwavering dedication to childhood cancer patients. He urges the corporate sector to continue their support, highlighting the vital services provided by KidzCan, including clinical care, advocacy, and provision of essential medical resources.
KidzCan’s comprehensive support ensures that childhood cancer patients receive the care and resources they need, from chemotherapy drugs to transportation allowances, all provided free of charge.
In the words of Mitchell, “These children never asked for cancer, they never lived a life that brought cancer by unhealthy living.” Together, through the Husqvarna Mud Run, the community stands united in the fight against childhood cancer, proving that a little mud and camaraderie can go a long way in making a difference.
