As Nelson Mandela once said, “there can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.”
We are proud and humbled that Everstar Industries is in a position to continuously give back to the community and we encourage our customers and the broader to lend a helping hand where they can.
This week we would like to feature a vibrant, energetic non-profit organisation that contributes to the advancement of the disadvantaged people of our community – Oliver’s House.
Oliver’s House was established in 2001 by Mr. David Sellar with the aim of assisting the people of the Daveyton Informal Settlement and neighbouring communities by providing educational, early childhood development, and other social services which are, of course, all free of charge. “It was evident that there was a great need in these areas and the decision was made to purchase a property within this community in 2007, which is known today as Oliver’s Village,” says Lola Wortley.
Oliver’s House makes a difference in our community and broader society through its free-of-charge services – “Our services are all free of charge, from our ECD centre to our computer program and agricultural program. The fact that our beneficiaries can upskill themselves without paying a fee is a tremendous help to those who do not have the funds.” Furthermore, “through our upskilling programs many beneficiaries have found employment after completing the course.”
Not only does this non-profit organisation provide a means to find employment, but they are also a safe haven for the children of these beneficiaries during this time. “We also strive in giving them the best environment in which to learn and become school ready,” concludes Wortley.
ESI is proud to support this worthy cause. If you’d like to help please Contact Oliver’s house on either 011 748 6500, or email Lola Wortley at lola@olivershouse.co.za to donate, or volunteer.
“It takes a village to raise a child,” and that’s exactly what Oliver’s House is here for.
